Best for

Hong Kong residents who already plan several purchases at US or international online stores, accept being paid in US dollars through PayPal and are prepared to wait about three months for each amount of cash back, particularly readers who prefer to browse offers in Traditional Chinese.

Extrabux is a cash back website that has operated since 2006 and covers more than 10,000 online stores, chiefly US and international ones. For Hong Kong readers its limitations are clear: every payment is made in US dollars, in practice mainly through PayPal, and each purchase waits about 90 days before it can be withdrawn. The US$20 (about HK$157) welcome bonus is not paid on registration but held locked in the account. For accounts registered on or before 31 December 2026, US$5 is released each time tracked cash back reaches US$5, US$15, US$25 and US$40 within 180 days; later registrations must reach US$25, US$50, US$75 and US$100. On the lower thresholds the bonus adds 50% to the first US$40 of cash back, which makes it worth claiming if year-end online purchases are already planned. A Trustpilot score of only 1.6 reflects the risks of long waits and claims rejected by stores. Use it only for planned orders, withdraw as soon as US$10 is Available, and confirm before ordering that the store accepts orders delivered to Hong Kong or to a forwarding address.

Pros

  • Up to US$20 (about HK$157) on top of ordinary cash back; for accounts registered on or before 31 December 2026, it adds 50% to the first US$40 of cash back
  • For accounts registered on or before 31 December 2026, a single purchase earning US$5 in cash back releases the first US$5, about US$100 (about HK$784) of spending at a 5% rate
  • More than 10,000 stores, chiefly US and international online shops, with each store's rate shown before you click through
  • Free to join and use, with PayPal payments from US$10 and payment requests processed within 3 business days
  • A Traditional Chinese version of the website and a Chrome extension

Watch-outs

  • The US$20 is released only as cash back accrues: the full amount requires four purchases and US$40 in cash back within 180 days, or US$100 for accounts registered from 2027
  • Payments are made in US dollars; a PayPal account settling in Hong Kong dollars converts at PayPal's rate, and cheques and ACH transfers are limited to the United States
  • Cash back and released bonus amounts wait about 90 days, longer at some stores, before they can be withdrawn
  • The choice of Hong Kong stores is limited, delivery to Hong Kong depends on the individual store, and some orders must go through a forwarding service
  • Tracking is strict: an outside coupon code, a cart filled before clicking through, ad-blocking software or two orders on one click can each cost the cash back
  • Rated 1.6 on Trustpilot from 35 reviews, with complaints centred on cash back left Pending for long periods and slow customer service

What Extrabux is: operator and business model

Extrabux is a cash back website. Members enter an online store through Extrabux and shop there; the store pays Extrabux a commission for the referral, and Extrabux passes most of that commission back to the member as cash back. Joining and using the service are free of charge: Extrabux states that there are no hidden fees or subscriptions and that it never asks members for a credit card number. The website is operated by Extrabux, Inc. and has run since 2006.

Extrabux is not a Hong Kong website. Account balances and payments are in US dollars, the terms are set by a US company, and the website addresses an international audience, with versions in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, German, Japanese, Korean and Russian. Extrabux states that members in any country can earn cash back, but individual stores may restrict cash back by location or delivery address, so each store's cash back terms should be checked before ordering.

Relevance to Hong Kong readers: stores, delivery and language

The store directory centres on US and international online shops, together with Australian, Canadian, European and Japanese branches; stores marked as Hong Kong are few, such as Agoda HK, adidas HK and Armani Exchange HK. In other words, the main use for Hong Kong readers is shopping at overseas online stores: some deliver directly to Hong Kong, while others require a forwarding service. Whether an order delivered to a forwarding address qualifies is determined by the individual store's cash back terms, which should be read before ordering.

The website has a Traditional Chinese version, and the Chrome extension flags cash back while you browse online stores. The iPhone app is listed on the Hong Kong App Store but had no ratings as of 7 November 2026; the Android app on Google Play, also published by Extrabux, Inc., had over 5,000 downloads. Most tasks are therefore more easily completed on the website or in a desktop browser.

Cash back rates, Super Cash Back and Boost and VIP cards

Each store's rate is shown before you click through, as a percentage or a fixed amount. In early November 2026, rates at mainstream online stores ranged from about 1.5% to 20%, with higher rates on some software subscriptions. A rate labelled "up to" is only a ceiling; the amount actually earned depends on what is bought.

Many stores also list a higher "Super Cash Back" rate. It applies to an order upgraded with a Cashback Boost Card, a single-use boost, or placed while a VIP Card is held, which upgrades every eligible order during the membership period; the two cannot be combined. Super Cash Back does not count towards the welcome bonus thresholds, so progress should be calculated at each store's standard rate.

How the invite link works, registration and disclosure

Opening this site's invite link leads to the Extrabux homepage. The link records the referral in your browser for 7 days, and Extrabux credits the referral when a new member joins within 7 days of the click. As no referral code needs to be entered, create the account in the same browser within 7 days, without clearing cookies in the meantime. Registration is available by email address, Google, Facebook or a mobile number in the countries and regions Extrabux lists.

Once registered, the US$20 welcome bonus appears in the account at once, marked as locked. Referrals apply only to members entirely new to Extrabux, and self-referral is not permitted. Members must be 18 or over, or 13 to 17 under a parent's supervision; each person may hold one account, and accounts may not be combined.

Disclosure: this site's invite link carries our referral ID, 617983605f. When you complete qualifying purchases through the link, Extrabux pays this site a referral bonus. That bonus is paid by Extrabux and does not reduce your cash back or welcome bonus.

The US$20 welcome bonus thresholds

The welcome bonus is released in four instalments of US$5, each requiring a set amount of tracked cash back and a minimum number of separate purchases within 180 days of joining. To mark its 20th anniversary, Extrabux applies lower thresholds to accounts registered between 20 October and 31 December 2026: US$5 in cash back from one purchase releases the first US$5, after which US$15 from two purchases, US$25 from three and US$40 from four release the remaining three. Accounts registered outside that period face thresholds of US$25, US$50, US$75 and US$100.

Two further points apply. First, Super Cash Back does not count towards the totals. Second, a released amount becomes Available, and therefore withdrawable, only after the store's return period, usually 90 days, has passed. If an order is returned or cancelled, its cash back is deducted, and the threshold it helped to reach may be lost with it.

How the US$20 welcome bonus unlocks, US$5 at a time within 180 days of joining. Accounts opened 20 October to 31 December 2026: step 1 at US$5 of cash back and 1 order (about US$100 of spending at 5%), step 2 at US$15 and 2 orders (about US$300), step 3 at US$25 and 3 orders (about US$500), step 4 at US$40 and 4 orders (about US$800). Accounts opened outside that window: US$25, US$50, US$75 and US$100 of cash back (about US$500, US$1,000, US$1,500 and US$2,000 at 5%). The bonus adds 50% to the first US$40 of cash back on the anniversary ladder and 20% to the first US$100 on the standard one. Unlocked steps are withdrawable after the store's return period, usually 90 days. Super Cash Back doesn't count.

Real value: a worked example in Hong Kong dollars

Suppose you join in November 2026 and, before the end of the following February, complete four online purchases through Extrabux worth about US$800 (about HK$6,270) in total, at stores paying 5%. Those purchases earn about US$40 in cash back, enough to clear all four anniversary thresholds: US$40 plus the US$20 bonus makes US$60 (about HK$470), or 7.5% of the amount spent. Join in January 2027 instead, and the same orders reach only the first standard threshold, one purchase and US$25 in cash back, for a total of US$45 (about HK$353).

Smaller orders still make sense on the anniversary thresholds: a single US$100 (about HK$784) order at 5% earns US$5 and releases the first US$5, doubling that order's cash back. The welcome bonus is the main source of value only on the first few orders; beyond that, whether Extrabux is worth using depends on its rates at the stores you use. Paying an overseas store with a Hong Kong credit card may attract a foreign currency transaction fee from the issuer; that fee has nothing to do with Extrabux but offsets part of the cash back. Items should never be bought merely to reach a threshold.

From order to payout: the timetable and PayPal

Orders generally appear as Pending 1 to 7 days after purchase and become Available after about 90 days, longer at some stores. Once US$10 is Available, including one confirmed purchase with more than US$1 in cash back, a payment may be requested. Extrabux processes payment requests within 3 business days, and PayPal and e-gift card payments generally arrive 24 to 48 hours later. In practice, about three to four months should be expected between an order and the money.

For members in Hong Kong, PayPal is the practical payout method. Cheques are sent only to US addresses, ACH transfers are limited to US banks, and the Amazon.com e-gift card can be used only on Amazon.com. Whichever store was used, payments are made in US dollars; if the PayPal account uses Hong Kong dollars as its main currency, PayPal converts the funds at its own rate, which is usually less favourable than the market rate. Members who will continue to shop in US dollars may consider keeping a US-dollar balance.

From order to PayPal: 1, start at Extrabux and click through with an empty basket, cookies on, no ad-blocker and no outside coupon codes; 2, the order is tracked as Pending, usually 1 to 7 days after you order; 3, the return period, usually 90 days, some stores longer; 4, cash back plus any unlocked US$5 steps become Available; 5, request a payment from US$10 Available, including a confirmed order with over US$1 of cash back; 6, paid: processed in 3 business days, PayPal or eGift card usually 24 to 48 hours later. Expect roughly three to four months between an order and money in PayPal, in US dollars. If an order isn't showing after 7 days, file a Missing Cash Back claim; stores usually take 30 to 45 days to answer.

Why tracking fails, and how to claim

Cash back depends on the store reporting the order to Extrabux, and Extrabux lists the situations that break tracking. Empty the cart before clicking through, as many stores pay commission only on items added after the click; keep cookies enabled and ad-blocking software disabled, and complete the order within 24 hours of the click; re-enter through Extrabux before a second order at the same store. Use only coupon codes listed on Extrabux: a code from a store's emails or another website often assigns the commission to that source. Buying gift cards generally earns no cash back, and paying with a gift card often disqualifies the order.

If an order has not appeared after 7 days, a Missing Cash Back claim may be submitted with the order confirmation. Stores generally take 30 to 45 days to investigate, some do not accept claims, and Extrabux cannot promise an outcome. Travel bookings show as "Waiting" until 1 to 2 months after the trip, and if a store enters bankruptcy or administration, the commission may never be paid.

Fees, account rules and closing an account

Extrabux charges nothing to join or use, so the costs are indirect: the exchange margin when PayPal converts to Hong Kong dollars, the foreign currency fee for paying overseas stores with a Hong Kong credit card, and cash back lost to tracking failures or an idle account. A balance on an account with no activity for 365 consecutive days is forfeited, so it is prudent to withdraw as soon as US$10 is Available.

The terms also allow Extrabux to withhold payment indefinitely over suspected fraud, store concerns or unusual activity, and accounts may not be combined to reach the US$10 minimum. Orders for which the store pays no commission, including returns, cancellations, resale and excluded items, earn no cash back, and the amount a store finally confirms may differ from the figure first shown because of shipping, taxes or coupons. To close an account, select Terminate Account at the bottom of the My Profile page. Deletion is permanent and any remaining balance cannot be recovered, so withdraw what is Available and allow pending orders to complete first.

User ratings

As of 7 November 2026, Extrabux scored 1.6 on Trustpilot from 35 reviews, 6 of them posted in the past year. Extrabux replies to most negative reviews, though often weeks later and usually attributing the problem to the store. The complaints recur: cash back left Pending for months, claims rejected because the store did not confirm, slow and formulaic customer service, referral bonuses withdrawn, and earlier reports of identity checks and closed accounts. A few positive reviews report PayPal payments arriving as described.

The Chrome extension scored 3.7 from 53 ratings with about 7,000 users, and the iPhone app had only 9 ratings, averaging 2.6, on the US App Store and none on the Hong Kong App Store, while the Android app showed 2.9 from 40 reviews on Google Play with a US setting. For a website running since 2006 these are small numbers, which suggests most members use the website itself.

Who should use it, and who may pass

It suits Hong Kong residents who join on or before 31 December 2026, already plan several purchases at US or international online stores and accept being paid in US dollars through PayPal. Readers who prefer to browse offers in Traditional Chinese can also use the website's Traditional Chinese version directly.

Those who want Hong Kong dollars paid straight into a bank account, who shop mainly at local online stores, who rely on ad-blocking or coupon extensions that interfere with tracking, or who cannot accept a wait of about three months and the possibility of pursuing a rejected claim, may pass.

FAQ

Is Extrabux reliable?
Extrabux is a cash back website operated by Extrabux, Inc. since 2006, and members do receive payments through PayPal. Its Trustpilot score, however, is only 1.6 from 35 reviews, with most complaints concerning long waits and rejected claims, so it is prudent to keep it to planned orders and to withdraw payments promptly.
Is the US$20 received immediately after registration?
No. The US$20 appears in the account at once but remains locked; it is released US$5 at a time as tracked cash back reaches each threshold within 180 days of joining, and must then wait for the store's return period, usually 90 days, to end.
What is required to release the full US$20?
For accounts registered on or before 31 December 2026, four purchases earning US$40 in cash back in total within 180 days, about US$800 (about HK$6,270) of spending at 5%. Accounts registered later need US$100 in cash back from four purchases.
Is there an Extrabux referral code?
No code needs to be entered. This site's link records the referral in your browser for 7 days; register in the same browser within that period.
Do orders delivered to Hong Kong or a forwarding address earn cash back?
That depends on the individual store. Extrabux states that members in any country can earn cash back, but some stores restrict cash back by location or delivery address, so read the cash back terms on the store page before ordering.
How are members in Hong Kong paid?
In US dollars through PayPal, once US$10 is Available. If the PayPal account settles in Hong Kong dollars, PayPal converts the funds at its own rate; cheques and ACH transfers are limited to US addresses and banks.
Why did an order earn no cash back?
Common causes include items in the cart before clicking through, an outside coupon code, ad-blocking software, cleared cookies or payment by gift card. If an order has not appeared after 7 days, a Missing Cash Back claim may be submitted; stores generally reply within 30 to 45 days.
Does Super Cash Back count towards the welcome bonus thresholds?
No. Super Cash Back, the additional rate earned with a Boost or VIP card, does not count towards the welcome bonus thresholds; progress should be calculated at each store's standard rate.
