Best for
Hong Kong residents who already plan to buy travel, domestic helper, home, outpatient or Northbound medical insurance online and are happy to spend points on Avo cover gift cards, eSIMs or merchandise.
Avo Hub is free to join, and every purchase, renewals included, earns points on the premium actually paid: 2 points per HK$10 at Green. With Avo's cover gift cards on Avo eMall at 10 points per HK$1, that is a return of about 2%; on eSIMs it is about 1.6%. Registering through our link fills in invite code 6F3952891A, and your first purchase of an Avo insurance product earns referral points as well, but Avo does not publish how many, so buying insurance for the points makes little sense. Avo Hub's value depends on the insurance itself: travel cover from HK$131 a trip, domestic helper, home, outpatient and Northbound medical cover, and IVF and cosmetic-treatment travel cover that few insurers offer. If you already need cover, joining through the link adds a second stream of points; if you are only after the points, there is little in it.
Pros
- Free to join, with a Policy Shelf for Avo and other insurers' policies and online claim tracking
- Every purchase and renewal earns points: per HK$10 of net premium, 2, 4, 8 or 12 points at Green, Silver, Gold or Diamond, credited the day the premium is paid
- Points buy Avo cover gift cards at 10 points per HK$1, as well as eSIMs and merchandise
- The first-upgrade reward is worth having: reaching Silver brings 300 extra points and four cover gift cards
- Buying and claiming are fully online, and the claims page says a result usually comes within 5 to 10 working days
- The range includes uncommon cover such as IVF and cosmetic-treatment travel insurance and Northbound medical cover
Watch-outs
- The number of referral points is not published; you see it in Avo Hub only after your first purchase
- Points have no cash value, can only be used on Avo eMall, and are worth about HK$0.08 to HK$0.10 each
- Referral points need a real purchase, and single-trip travel, IVF and cosmetic-treatment travel policies are not refundable once issued
- Each batch of points expires on the last day of the 12th calendar month after it is earned, and cancelling your membership forfeits them
- Policies bought on some third-party platforms earn no points, and refunded policies lose theirs
- There is no mobile app: everything is done on heyavo.com in a browser

What Avo is: licence, background and business model
Avo Insurance is the registered name of Avo Insurance Company Limited, which underwrites every policy and is authorised and regulated by Hong Kong's Insurance Authority; it is based at 27/F, 118 Connaught Road West, Sheung Wan. The Insurance Authority authorised Avo through its Fast Track in October 2019, making it Hong Kong's first virtual general insurer; Avo names Asia Insurance, Hillhouse Capital and Two Sigma as its backers.
A virtual insurer operates only online, with no agents or branches. Quotes, purchases, payments, policy management and claims all happen on heyavo.com; Avo has no mobile app, and Avo Hub is also used in a browser. Customer service is on 3572 8222 and [email protected].
The products: travel insurance and other cover
Global Travel Protection comes as single-trip or annual cover (annual on the Plus plan only), from HK$131 a trip according to the website. Lite covers medical expenses up to HK$500,000 and personal baggage up to HK$8,000; Plus raises these to HK$1.1 million and HK$20,000, and add-ons cover water sports, winter sports, amateur competitions and overseas wedding photography, with follow-up treatment within 90 days of returning also covered. Trips must start and end in Hong Kong, the maximum age is 80 and every insured person needs a valid Hong Kong Identity Card; a single-trip policy cannot be refunded once issued.
The other products are owner and tenant home insurance, landlord cover for let homes, overseas or local domestic helper insurance (1 or 2 years), OutpatientGuard (up to 100 visits in the Quality HealthCare network, covering general practice, specialists, physiotherapy, Chinese medicine and dental care) and Northbound medical cover (grade-2 or higher public hospitals on the Mainland, with underwriting by online health questions). IVF and cosmetic-treatment travel cover protects treatment in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Mainland and Singapore, for insured persons aged 18 to 76, and is not refundable once issued.
What Avo Hub does and how to register
Avo Hub is Avo's free membership platform. Anyone aged 18 or over joins with an email address, a password, a preferred name and a birth month, then enters a one-time password sent by email; every later sign-in also needs an email code. The membership terms require the name on your Hong Kong Identity Card or passport and accurate details.
The platform has Avo Rewards (tier and points balance), Avo Wallet (gifts and offers), an Earn Rewards task centre, My Policies and the Policy Shelf, which stores Avo and other insurers' policies, plus claim tracking. Avo policies you bought as the applicant are matched to your account by name and email; if someone else bought the policy and you are the insured person, add it yourself under My Policies with the policy and ID numbers.
Tiers and earning rates
Avo Hub has four tiers: Green, Silver, Gold and Diamond. Each HK$10 of net premium on Avo insurance, renewals included, earns 2 points at Green, 4 at Silver, 8 at Gold and 12 at Diamond; points are whole numbers and are credited on the day the premium is paid, with monthly policies earning on each payment.
Tiers depend on premium, insurance types and purchases: Silver needs HK$1,000 in premium, 1 type and 1 purchase; Gold HK$5,000, 2 types and 2 purchases; Diamond HK$10,000, 2 types and 3 purchases. You move up the day after qualifying, and the tier lasts until 31 December, when the previous 12 months are reassessed. The first upgrade brings a reward: 300 extra points at Silver plus 2 GBA, 1 sports and 1 eWallet cover gift cards; 1,000 points at Gold; 2,000 points at Diamond. Every tier has birthday treats, and Diamond adds a yearly single-trip travel cover upgrade.
Invite code 6F3952891A: conditions for the referral points
Our invite link opens Avo's sign-up page; after you enter your email and tap Continue, the second screen shows 6F3952891A in the "Referral code (if any)" box. The code can be entered only when you register, not added to an existing account. According to Avo Hub's Refer friends page, the referred member earns points once they first buy an Avo insurance product. Avo does not publish the number of referral points or when they post; once credited, they appear in Avo Rewards' points history as "Member Task – Referral".
To make sure the points count, buy on heyavo.com while signed in: the membership terms say some third-party platforms earn no points. Avo also does not say whether a past customer's purchase counts as a "first purchase", so if you have held an Avo policy, ask customer service first. If the policy is later refunded, the points from that transaction are deducted.
Disclosure: 6F3952891A is this site's invite code. When you make your first purchase of an Avo insurance product, this site also receives Avo points.
What points are worth on Avo eMall
Points can only be used on Avo eMall; they have no cash value and cannot be transferred. Avo's own cover gift cards are priced at a flat 10 points per HK$1: for example, a one-day GBA Smooth Travel Lite card is 130 points (HK$13), a one-day sports cover pass 160 points (HK$16), the eWallet Protection card 790 points (HK$79) and the Child Vaccination Protection card 1,180 points (HK$118).
eSIMs and merchandise give less: most eSIMs work out to about HK$0.08 a point against the member price, such as 350 points or HK$28 for a 1 GB Japan eSIM; Avo's crossbody phone strap costs 900 points or HK$98 at the member price, about HK$0.11 a point. The 2 points per HK$10 of premium earned at Green are therefore worth a return of about 1.6% to 2%, rising in proportion at higher tiers.
A worked example: what a first purchase earns
Example 1: after registering through our link, you buy a HK$131 single-trip travel policy. At Green, HK$131 earns 26 points (13 lots of HK$10 at 2 points each), worth about HK$2.60 in cover gift cards, plus the referral points. 26 points are not yet enough for the cheapest gift card at 130 points, so they need topping up with later purchases or renewals.
Example 2: your first policy has a premium of HK$1,000 (for instance a domestic helper or home policy, assuming a premium of exactly HK$1,000). The premium earns 200 points at Green; it also meets the Silver criteria (HK$1,000 in premium, 1 type, 1 purchase), so you move up the next day and receive the first-upgrade reward listed on the membership page: 300 extra points and four cover gift cards. Together the 500 points are worth about HK$50 in Avo cover gift cards, about 5% of the premium, before the gift cards and the referral points. Later purchases at Silver earn 4 points per HK$10.
Expiry, deductions and other limits
Each batch of points is valid until the last day of the 12th calendar month after it was earned and is forfeited after that; Avo Rewards shows points about to expire. Cancelling your membership immediately forfeits all points, rewards, offers and task progress, and removes the Policy Shelf data. If a policy or purchase is refunded, the points from that transaction are deducted.
Avo may change the points for any activity or eligible policy at its sole discretion, amend the membership terms and tier criteria at any time, and has the final say; if the Chinese and English terms differ, the English version prevails. Task rewards are credited only after you tap Collect in the Earn Rewards tab, and each task has its own deadline.
Claims and cancellation
Claims are made online by completing a form and uploading the documents required; Avo's claims page says a result usually follows within 5 to 10 working days, and more accurate documents speed things up. Progress can be followed in Avo Hub. For emergency assistance while travelling, use the assistance hotline in your policy documents.
Cancellation depends on the product: single-trip travel, IVF and cosmetic-treatment travel policies are not refundable once issued, premium and levy included, and an annual travel policy cannot add, remove or change insured persons once in force. For other policies, read the product's terms and conditions on cancellation before buying.
Practical points before you join
Avo has no mobile app, so there are no app store ratings to go by; Avo Hub, purchases and claims all run in a browser, and every sign-in needs an email code (which can be resent after 120 seconds).
Avo's own FAQ covers a few common snags: a policy bought for you by someone else does not appear automatically and must be added; a completed task may not show as finished straight away; and if the applicant's name or email does not match the policy, customer service has to step in. Registering with the name on your ID and the email you use to buy cover avoids most of these.
Who should join, and who can skip it
Join if you already intend to buy travel, domestic helper, home, outpatient or Northbound medical cover and will use points on Avo cover gift cards or eSIMs; if your first premium is close to HK$1,000, you also collect the Silver first-upgrade reward, which makes the return worthwhile.
Skip it if you only want the referral points and have no need for cover, if you mainly buy insurance through credit cards, banks or other third-party platforms, or if you buy cover once a year and are unlikely to reach a redeemable balance within 12 months.
